AbstractThe study of place names is a discipline whose difficulties are spread to linguistics, geography, history, botany, archaeology, etc. However, the only one which possesses the ?right? is the field of linguistics because it tries to explain an element of the lexicon in a place, region or language. The Spaniards who came to the Islands found out a well-formed language and they had to adapt their language, creating in this way, the Canarismos, which constitute a remarkable characteristic.<
